IT'S SO EASY TO LOOSE YOURSELF IN A TIME WHERE IT FEELS LIKE YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO BE ON BECAUSE OF BEING JUDGE OR CARING WHAT OTHERS MAY THINK. SO HOW DO YOU STAY GROUNDED?
If I can say anything about this era that we live in today, it would be that it definitely can challenge the view you have about yourself. In this social media age we can get so easily get caught up in the latest trends, gossip, and drama. The possibility of becoming an overnight sensation is so higher now a days just with a click of a heart, thumbs up or share button. It's so easy now to become a celebrity off of a viral video, post, or picture to the point that I believe some of us subconsciously act according to how we're going to be viewed on social media. From the way we dress even to what we post or "act" like we post all for the look of feeling wanted by someone.
I for one can say I have veered quite a bit into the hype and lost some of me along the way. Interestingly enough, I was trying to build my brand and listening to all the "what to do's" of getting more business and exposure is how I became so lost. I also delved into a business venture that I believed was a for sure turn over, but everybody's selling Fashion Nova "like" clothes these day. Although, I liked the clothes, I realized I wouldn't wear much of them because it wasn't my style, but eventually it became my style because I had to be able to wear the product to sell the product. So of course that was the beginning of me slipping away into the Social darkness. Now I'm worried about my belly roll, and my back fat, because compared to these other ladies on IG I believed I wasn't the standard. So now I'm setting unrealistic goals and expectations for myself and it just all became waaaaay too much.
I had to take several steps back and look at myself and my purpose as a whole. My whole brand is about black women loving yourself, being uniquely you, and representing beauty inside and out. Furthermore my mission statement is "Let your beauty and style be your voice" not anyone else's. So I had to find some way of getting back to me. I realized that the only standards that I should be living up to are my own. I'm no Instagram model or celebrity so why am I restricting myself by shaming myself of all of my imperfections. I had to be able to find a common median to being me and branding me.
How can my voice be an instrument to relate to other women when I'm in fact not being myself or loving myself? Not to say that it's anything wrong with wanting to look better but if it doesn't make you feel better than what's the purpose; and I'm not talking about that superficial, temporary feeling. I'm talking real stick to your soul feeling. I want to feel good and allow it to come from the inside and show on the outside and I want my actions to help others as well.
So this A style Like Mind is dedicated with going back to me, my mind and my style. Accepting who I am now and improving what's going to make me better from the inside and throughout.
